A Question for the Readers #17: No Fair Taking Shortcuts!

Whenever a series gains notoriety, you will inevitably hear about it talked about quite a lot whether it’s on the internet or amongst your peers. However, sometimes you just don’t want to get into it. It’s not necessarily because the series is bad; perhaps you’re just too busy with other stuff to check it out. When you finally end up taking the plunge, it may even be after the series has concluded. You’ve effectively done in the span of a month or so what fans had to wait years to see unfold. I myself have done this a few times, and the results have been interesting.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (Dean DeBlois, 2019)

One year has passed since the defeat of the avaricious warlord Drago Bludvist. Since that day, Hiccup, the new chieftain of Berk, has been leading his fellow riders on a campaign to rescue any remaining dragons captured by the trappers and bring them back to their village. In doing so, the island has become overpopulated with dragons. Remembering a story his father once told him, Hiccup wishes to find the Hidden World, which is said to be a dragon’s paradise. However, their exploits have caught the attention of an infamous dragon hunter known as Grimmel the Grisly.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Dean DeBlois, 2014)

Since the fall of the Red Death, the Vikings of Berk have made peace with the dragons forced to do its bidding, and they live together in harmony.  In just five years, the dragons have radically altered the culture of the village. Every Viking has now bonded with a dragon, and they even stage competitions to see who can capture more sheep. During one such competition, Hiccup, the son of the village chieftain Stoick the Vast, secretly leaves with his own dragon, Toothless, to explore uncharted lands.

How to Train Your Dragon (Chris Sanders & Dean DeBlois, 2010)

On a remote island is the Viking village of Berk. The weather isn’t exactly ideal, which makes living there quite difficult. While most communities have to deal with wolves or other predatory animals, Berk has a bigger problem: dragons. The island is frequently besieged by dragons that steal their livestock and cause massive amounts of property damage. Under the leadership of Stoick the Vast, the villagers have fared reasonably well against the dragon attacks, though they would stop at nothing to put a permanent end to their raids.
